June – August Blog

Hello all!

Since our blog in May, it’s been a dreary Summer with not the best weather to say the least. But we have remained positive with some great accomplishments and developments.

Anita has graduated with a First in an open degree. Therefore, we used this as a great excuse to have a party and to celebrate with friends! We had a buffet, and pictures taken with Bedwyr @ Dewi Wyn Photography, and got to meet Anita’s tutor – Kate Shelley. Anita says ‘Thank you to All!’. Anita has now started a language course in German! ‘ Gut Gemacht’

We Received a grant of £1600 to help us with our desire to create a food pantry. We would like to thank Jo Scott, once again for her encouragement and support. We hope to bring a food pantry that provides 12 items for a cost of £3.50. Our survey, we put out to the public has shown a need for this.

At the end of May, we began to plant Vegetables and fruit, and in this last month, Alun, Tania, Debbie & Sharon have all been busy harvesting (& eating) them! We had tomatoes, rhubarb, potatoes & runner beans!

Alun, our brilliant maintenance worker has been super busy with painting and decorating. And by renovating one of our rooms has discovered some window shutters that had been sealed with paint, and he has now restored them to their full glory & has bought a little bit of history back into the building!

We had a brilliant turn out with our Tabletop Sale & a lot of fun was had!

We have had fire safety training & we have new designated fire marshals and have upgraded the building with fire door shutters to ensure safety!

We have re-opened the kitchen and are planning for cooking sessions & are now preparing lunch every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s. We also had the most brilliant news – we have had a 5* Food Hygiene Scoring on our door! Thank you, Sharon, for all your hard work & dedication with the paperwork and getting the kitchen ready!

Ceira & Sharon attended the Eisteddfod in Boduan and had a stall in the Betsi Cadwaladr Tent! They thoroughly enjoyed their time there and are grateful to everyone that they have met there.

We had a Spring Wreath Making session with Mandy from Tudweiliog!

Carol, our long-term volunteer has returned! We are very happy to have her back here!

As staff, we now have optional uniforms with our logo on them!

We have continued to distribute female hygiene products into the community for free.

Thank you for Reading! Remember to keep updated on our latest Activities!

January – May Blog

Hello All!

To help situations with the Cost of Living Crisis, we distributed Winter Warm packs out into the community to those in needs. Mainly, carers came in to collect them to give to the people that they support. The winter warm packs consisted of a neck warmer, blanket, hat, and thermos flask. These were provided by Canolfan Felin Fach and the items sourced from local shops, whilst the funding was provided by Cyngor Gwynedd.

Tess Arbanska had been in to consult with the Arts & Crafts group, and feedback was given to Tess that they would like to participate in Wet Felting, that began in March. This was a very successful turnout. She is now back at the end of May up until June!

We are now recognised as a Warm Hub.

After founding Canolfan Felin Fach, Christine Hughes has now retired at the end of December 2022. In her place, Sami Lloyd and Meinir Evans have begun their new roles of Manager and CEO of Canolfan Felin Fach. We wish all the best to Christine and thank you very much for all you have done for the Staff and Service User’s. We hope that you have a very happy retirement, and there will always be a warm welcome for you here.

Sandra Jones (Receptionist) has now become an IACT Practitioner in Understanding and Promoting Positive mental health and wellbeing. Sandra also has got a Distinction grade in Bereavement support.

Ceira Owens & Debbie Hughes (Support Workers) completed Suicide Intervention skills training.

Wendy who is studying to be an occupation therapist, has been here on placement.

We have had students here from Coleg Meirion Dwyfor on work experience, and we thank them as well as Wendy for coming to Canolfan felin Fach.

We received a grant from Jo Scott at the Asda Foundation – Investing in spaces and places grant. Thank you Jo, for all your hard work and for all you do in the community.

We hosted a Cost of Living Seminar with Cyngor Gwynedd

We have set up food pantry in our waiting area – so if you are ever in need of tea bags, tins e.t.c just drop in, no question asked!

Wendy (Student OT) held a very successful Menopause Information group.

A day event of Tai Chi which was ran by Cymru vs Arthritis was held here.

We have a new member of Staff – Alun! Who is now our maintenance worker, and has already been doing wonders in the garden!

Sharon (Support Worker) is keen to get the kitchen up and running, and has been planning meals so that we can hopefully open our drop in! Sharon also went to the opening of M-Sparc’s new community project here in Pwllheli – The repair shop, and we look forward to working in partnership with them!

Thank you for reading!

We hope the next coming months will be just as busy!
